FEMA Preliminary Floodplain Appeal Period
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is in the process of revising the official floodplain maps for Cerro Gordo County, known as Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM). The current FIRM were adopted in 2012. As the process continues, the public has the opportunity to review the preliminary floodplain maps.
If you believe any of the preliminary floodplain maps are in error, a 90-day appeal period begins on February 20, 2019, in which the public will be afforded the option to file an appeal. All appeals must be based on scientific or technical data, such as elevations or surveys. The end of the appeal period is May 21, 2019. FEMA will take into consideration any data that meets its criteria.
All appeals must be submitted to the Cerro Gordo County Planning and Zoning Department, located at the Cerro Gordo County Courthouse; 220 N Washington Avenue; Mason City, IA 50401. All appeals received will be submitted to FEMA for consideration and must be received before the appeal period ends. Additionally, all appeals must meet FEMA's Criteria of Appeals of Flood Insurance Rate Maps.
